A 7.8-magnitude earthquake has shaken southern Turkey, killing many people, according to authorities. The quake was centred in the town of Pazarcik in Kahramanmaras province, south-east Turkey, at a depth of six miles, and there were several powerful aftershocks measuring as strong as 6.7. Several buildings have been destroyed, with hundreds still believed to be trapped under the rubble. The death toll is expected to rise as rescue workers continue to search through wreckage and collapsed buildings in cities and towns across the affected areas. The earthquake also affected bordering Syria.
